Made it to Arizona! 05/20/14

Dear Brother and Sister Greenhalgh,

Sister Toone and I wanted to let you know that Sister Lindsey Leigh Greenhalgh arrived safely.  Attached you will find two pictures that we thought you might enjoy: one is your missionary with Sister Toone and me, and the other is the group of missionaries with whom she arrived in the Arizona Tempe Mission.

We are so pleased to have Sister Greenhalgh serving in the Arizona Tempe Mission. Monday is Preparation Day at which time she will let you know her mailing address, the zone and district to which she is assigned and the name of her trainer.

As we met with Sister Greenhalgh, we stressed the principles of obedience, hard work and worthiness.  This mission holds great potential for each missionary assigned.  The members are strong and love these great Elders and Sisters.  You can be assured they, and we, will do all possible to watch over your daughter.  It is a very special responsibility we feel toward our missionaries.  We want to see them enjoy a happy and successful mission.

Our missionaries have permission to Skype or telephone their families twice per year, on Mother's Day and at Christmas.  If you need to get a message to your daughter or if you have any questions, please call us directly.  We do want the missionaries to receive letters from home on a regular basis encouraging them in their proselyting efforts.

Thank you for raising a missionary who has a desire to serve the Lord.

Sincerely yours,
Toone Signature Samples cropped

Last Week in the CCM - Letter 05/15/14

¡Hola Familia!
It was good to hear from you guys, I miss all of you. I didn´t get homesick I was just so happy to hear the little ones voices! I miss them so much. I can´t believe Sharbugs is talking, and Konman knows left from right, and little B is almost crawling :). I´m ready to get out of here and into the field, The CCM is awesome pero es tiempo to leave.

Did you guys get pictures of grandmas house? I wish I could of been there, it´s definitely hitting me on how much I miss her. Please send pictures if you have them. I know Grams is here with me and she is with you guys as well. Tell Uncle Karl, Aunt Melanie, Judd, Jessie, Blythe and Zach "Hello" from me. Let Aunt Sherrie I said hello as well as Aunt Deena.

My week here has been pretty good, definitely busy pero bien! I got a music arrangement together for my District to sing at the final devotional and I´ve been sewing like crazy. I have to return the sewing machine tomorrow so people are lined up for me to get their stuff sewn. I say the final prayer on Sunday at the devotional for the whole CCM. Tomorrow I have infield training all day so that is going to super fun.. Not. I´ve started packing and I get my flight plans today. I will be calling Tuesday sometime not sure when keep your phones on you.

My companion and I taught our final lessons with our investigatores and they cried. They are going to miss us and we will miss them. Two got 'bautizado'! I can´t wait to get to be with real investigators and share a big part of what makes me happy. Yo se que la Iglesia es verdadero y este bendice mi vida. I´m so grateful to be here serving a mission and learning so much about life. This is an amazing opportunity, and many are waiting to hear about the Gospel.

I hope everyone is enjoying their week, and Melissa is enjoying her last few weeks of school. Tell everyone Hello from Mexico, and that I love them. Here is one of my favorite talks:

"Fellowship of the Unashamed" by Henry B. Eyring. "I am part of the fellowship of the unashamed. The die has been cast. I have stepped over the line. The decision has been made. I am a disciple of Jesus Christ. I won't look back, let up, slow down, back away or be still. My past is redeemed, my present makes sense, and my future is secure. I'm finished and done with low living, small planning, smooth knees, colorless dreams, tainted visions, worldly talking, cheap giving, and dwarfed goals. I no longer need pre-eminence, position, promotions, plaudits, or popularity. I don't have to be first, recognized, praised, regarded, or rewarded. I now live by faith, lean on his presence, am uplifted by prayer, and labor with power. My face is set, my gait is fast and my goal is Heaven. My road is narrow, my way is rough. My companions are few, my guide is reliable, my mission is clear. I cannot be bought, compromised, detoured, lured away, divided, diluted, or delayed. I will not flinch in the fare of sacrifice, hesitate in the presence of adversity, negotiate at the table of the enemy, ponder at the pool of popularity, or meander in the maze of mediocrity. I won't give up, shut up, or let up until I have stayed up, stored up and paid up for the cause of Christ. I must go till He stops me. And when He returns for His own, He will have no problem recognizing me. MY BANNER WILL BE CLEAR"

Love,
{Hermana Greenhalgh}

Letter - 05/08/14

¿Como le va Familia?
I´m doing pretty good, this week has been super slow and boring. But for the most part I´ve gotten through it. I hit my month mark tomorrow! Can you believe it has been a month already. I can´t even fathom how fast time has flown. I leave in a week and half for Arizona! I´m so ready to get back in the states. The native Eldres y Hermanas follow me around and touch my hair. Gets kinda weird but what do you do? It´s probably fine haha!
Some neat things that happened this week was we had a live broadcast devotional with Eldre Holland. He seriously is the best speaker ever. I´ve learned so much and changed so much. Uno de mi Maestros (One of my teachers) came up to me and was telling me how proud he was of how much I´ve grown while being en de CCM. He said my Spanish has gotten so good. I´m not fluent but I can hold a conversation! It´s crazy to think I could only say 3 Spanish words now I´m saying MAS Espánol. Mi investigadore Adrain is almost ready for baptism. He is so excited and ready. I love the work here! Mi districto does service projects every Friday and the guy who sets them up is identical to Jerry Lewis the actor. It kills me every time we talk with him because I can´t stop laughing. :) We always end up cleaning the comiedor and get free drinks after! Sorry I don´t have a whole lot to say this week it´s been not the best.
How is everyone doing at home? Hopefully well, I don´t have pictures at this moment to send but later tonight I will send some. Whose ready to Skype? This girl right here. I´m excited to see all of you! So on Sunday my Skype time is 3:30-4:00 Mexíco time. Please be on and ready for my call or else we won´t be able to talk. I´m setting up my Skype right now so I will add the username. If Skype doesn´t work I will be calling I only have 25 minutes. PLEASE ANSWER!!
Well I hope you todos have a muy bien week!!
Love,
Hermana Greenhalgh

Letter - 05/01/14

¡Hola! Familia,
My week has been good, I now have 3 investigadores and TRC (in field training) so time flies by so quickly. We taught our investigadore Adrain he is amazing he is progressing in the gospel and he left our last lesson in tears, and wants to be baptized asap. It has been raining almost everyday here and so the bugs and spiders have been so bad. Spencer Shipton arrived here yesterday and another kid that graduated a couple years before me named Wesley Billman.
Today we got to visit the Temple or visitors center because the Temple is closed for remodeling but it was still super neat! We got to go through and buy things and meet real investigadores. I bought a shirt that says "I´m happy I´m Mormon" en espanól super sweet! I also bought mini Poloroids of Jesus Christ.
So something really cool happened as I was leaving the visitors center 4 strangers came up to me and started asking me where I was from and just small talk, well we asked them if they were interested in hearing about the Church, they were immediately interested. I talked with them and invited them to go into the visitors center and they accepted I was so stoked!
So last week I was telling you about the Eldre with the ripped suit so I fixed his suit, he got a new one, then I gave him about $110 for a new one when he gets to Chile. When I gave him the suit and money he began to cry and said "you have no idea how much I needed this". It was a neat experience. I´m glad I can help people, and serve. Missionary work is awesome. I´ve also fixed 3 or 4 skirts, 3 pairs of pants, 2 suits, and have a couple people bringing their stuff past my casa in a little while.
In other news things have been pretty slow, my Spanish is moving forward I´ve been studying a ton, and praying a LOT. I hope everyone back home is doing well! As we were driving today to the Temple I got to see a lot of what Mexico looks like. It was very humbling I now understand why so many want to come to America. I saw many homeless children looking for food. It breaks my heart, I want to pick them all up and give them all I have! I´ve noticed the people here are sooo kind, there is a bad stereotype in the US that they are bad. Not all are bad, most are just lost. I love the people here, and God loves them too.
I hope every has a great week! Love you all.
Hermana Greenhalgh
P.S I received my itinerary, and I leave in 2 weeks! Also have you guys received my letter?

The Week of Interesting Events - Letter 04/24/14

¡Hola Familia!

Well this week has been nothing short of interesting. Thursday I got hit with a rock the size of a golf ball and ended up with a concussion. I´m doing fine just have to take things slow. Friday we had a 7.5 earthquake which was super duper crazy! Saturday night we had 2 calls at midnight, and strange workers knocking on our doors. Monday in every room there was one bed made and one messed up. Nothing was stolen just rearranged. Another thing is I keep meeting look  a likes of people from back home. There is one kid who is identical to Zach Nelson not even kidding talks and acts just like him. Next my companion and I were looking at my camera and over 200 pictures I had on there from opening my mission call, the bebes, getting set apart, and my first few days at the CCM are gone. I´m sad but good thing you guys have them on your phones!!
Besides strange events my week has gone alright, after a while the CCM gets boring. We now have dose investigators named Abraham and Edquardo. My companion and I are getting along great and we have been working hard. I haven´t met anyone I know yet, but there have been a few Elderes from Idaho and some that are going to Idaho. I will usually email around 9 or 10 if people want to email me and I can get back on periodically throughout the day and check. We have had some great devotionals from Dallin H. Oaks and one by President Uchtdorf on Easter. How was Easter for everyone? I missed you all especially the little ones and the Easter egg hunts. I received your package thank you soo much! It came at the perfect time! Let me know when you guys receive my letter it has some things in it for Melissa, Shar, and Konman.
So I´m starting to figure out my talents... sewing.. who would of guessed. I have now sewed skirts, purses, jackets, suits and everything in between. The CCM President´s wife let me have her sewing machine while I stay here. I now run a sweat shop... Just kidding. One elder from New York was running and slipped and tore his suit to pieces I am now trying to repair it. He is unable to buy a new suit because he doesn´t have the means. So I´m giving him the cash I have and I arranged with the President to take him out and get him a new one. It was a very humbling experience, and I´m very grateful for all that I have and the talents I have been given. I encourage all of you if you know someone in need to help them in some way.
I miss the little ones please send me pictures and keep me updated on how they are doing and what they are doing! I´m happy Shar is talking and little B is army crawling. Tell Konman to build something with his new legos and send me a picture of it. Tell Addie Park I miss her! Give them hugs from Linds!
I hope you all are having a great week and are enjoying Easter treats! I love you all!
Love,
Hermana Greenhalgh

My First Week in the CCM! Letter 04/17/14

Hola Familia!
Buenos Dias! How is everyone doing? I´m doing great. My first week was good, my companion is Hermana Finau she is from Maui Hawaii. We taught our first lesson on Friday to Carlos our investigator. It was not so good. But we have kept on teaching and last night we committed to baptism on Cinco de Mayo, he accepted! Missionary life is great! I like it a ton! I haven´t really gotten homesick this has just become my new life so I´ve been doing great. The CCM is beautiful it´s 90 acres and has lots of houses and classroom buildings along with a store, post office, and gym. They keep it up like the temple grounds mowing and trimming everyday. We aren´t allowed to leave the CCM because the town is so scary. The cops walk around with machine guns, and there are no lanes for traffic rule is as many cars as you can fit! We constantly hear gunshots, sirens, and car horns, along with random fireworks throughout the day. The fireworks sound like the ones off of Hunger Games so every time they go off we do Rues Whistle and the Mockingjay Sign! Everyone does it. My Spanish is coming along, it´s hard but I´m starting to pick it up! My teacher is awesome his name is Hermano Sachez he has given me a ton of advice and is super helpful.

So a cool experience this week was my companions cousin died before she came here his funeral was Saturday. She was having a rough rough time and I had the prompting to tell her to ask for a Sacerdocio (Priesthood) Blessing she just told me no so I let it go. About 20 minutes later she agreed and got one it was soo spiritual! I found out later that if I wouldn´t of told her to get that blessing she would be home right now. I´m grateful for promptings! Also my branch president told me he can tell I have a strong testimony "it´s something in your eyes" he said. Thank you for all your support and prayers I definitely feel them! I hope everyone is having a great week! My Pdays are Thursday so email me! Tell people on Facebook my email! Graciás! I love you and miss you all!
Love,
Hermána Greenhalgh

P.S. I will send pictures next week still trying to figure out the computers!

Made it to Mexico!!!

Hola Familia!
I made it here safely... it´s definitely culture shock. everyone drives super super crazy like drunk drivers x10.. ahh! I got my name tag I feel all official and such! How are you guys holding up? Hopefully well! I love you guys and miss you but I wouldn´t be any where but here right now. The CCM (MTC) is beautiful and everyone is so kind. My flights were crazy but I felt the Spirit and followed it so I found my way. I teach my first lesson in Spanish on Friday! Pray for me I´m nervous! I get to meet my companion in a few minutes, then I just have orientation the rest of the day, and I get to take a NAP!!! Jet lag is kicking me in the pants. Well I LOVE YOU ALL! Have a wonderful remainder of your week, and I´ll email you on P-day which I´m not sure when that is yet. Keep your heads up and remember Heavenly Father loves you!
Love,
Hermana Greenhalgh

Being Set Apart and Saying Goodbye

Hermana Greenhalgh was set apart as a Full-time Missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on April 8, 2014 by her Stake President.  Early in the morning on April 9, 2014, she said goodbye to her family for 18 months and flew out of Idaho Falls to Mexico City to start her new adventure.

Mission Talk (AKA: Farewell)

Sunday March 23, 2014

Hermana Greenhalgh spoke in Sacrament Meeting for the last time in her Ward before heading to the Mission Field.  She had the privilege of speaking with her sister, Melissa and singing with her good friend Kamra Birch.  The Meeting was awesome!  A celebratory farewell luncheon was held after. Many friends and family members dropped by to say goodbye and wish her well.

Opening the Call

Friday January 24, 2014

Lindsey was "over the top" excited to open her Mission Call!  She had specifically told the Stake President she wanted to learn any language "but Spanish"!
